... the doors are finally painted inside and out!!!
A few shots from around our DESIDERATUM Studio/Gallery, in St. Martins and a catch-up on the goings on.. .. I can't believe we are into August already.. time really moves too fast.. we sure have been busy too... so busy it is scary when I think about it... and every time we turn around we are rearranging the place so please don't be surprised if everything is in a different place, including walls, the next time you drop by... someone please make us stop!!!!
John designed and set up the lighting, using steel bars and clamp-on lights for flexibility, turned out really cool and I like them...
I began making cards from our many drawings, paintings and photographs... I like them too!!
We are now working on our little kitchen in the back of the studio... I painted the shelves and John is making a counter from a piece of heavy gauge recycled stainless steel...
Our son, Max, has graduated from high school, much to his and our delight..
We have a beautiful new grandchild in the family (#4)... It was a boy... Mama, my daughter, gave birth at home!!
We are getting our house ready to sell... painting, varnishing, scrubbing, de-cluttering, etc. etc. etc. .......if you have any spare minutes in the day please send us some, cause we are running out... ... someone said once that you should move every five years whether you need to or not, just so you don't accumulate so much stuff... I think they were Right!!!..
Needless to say, the creating of Art ... Painting and Drawing...that needs quiet and solitude... has been taking a back seat.. seems rather ironic don't you think?... soon, yes soon, we hope to be back splashing paint around again... maybe even taking some time to make a sensible meal or to sit down.. oh .. really looking forward to that!!
And last but definitely not least...it has been wonderful to meet all the many lovely visitors who have dropped in to the Gallery... Thank you All for your support! We really appreciate it.
... Take care and hope everyone enjoys their summer!!!! xoxo, Gwen

It looks wonderful, I would love to be able to browse, and buy! Just dont think I will ever manage to get to your lovely part of the world.
Oh I want to visit this place one day!
I LOVE IT!!!!
I see some cards I want!
We were so happy to be able to stop at your Gallery on Sunday, to meet you in person and to see all the lovely creations you and John have made. It is a beautiful spot and you both have so many wonderfully creative gifts to offer to the world. It was a delight to be there. Thank you. Carol
I too was thrilled to visit your beautiful Gallery a few weekends ago. John told me I missed you by just a few minutes Gwen. I hope he passed on my "Hello". I hadn't been to St. Martins for years, and of course forgot to check out the tide times, so I was there right on time for high tide... Guess I'll have to plan another trip for low tide and beach/cave explorations.... I'll be sure and drop in again. Your hard work has paid off- the Gallery is incredibly beautiful.
Hi Penny, thank-you for the lovely thoughts from your distant abode...
Hi Guillaume... maybe you will if you move back to Canada.
Thanks Steven, Good to hear from you... How are things down south?
Carol it was delightful to meet you too!! Once we get all this finishing up done on the house at least one of us will be there on a more regular basis...
Thank you Linda, yes John told me you had dropped in.. I'm so sorry to have missed you!! Yes, and as far as Fundy goes, the tide waits for no man!! take care!
Everything looks so beautiful Gwen. I love the touches that make such a difference - the crab on the plate, the vase of fresh flowers...
Your work, the drawings and photographs made into postcards look simply terrific and all the paintings on the wall are stunning.
Hi Gwen
I have moved you to the top of my bucket list of places to visit...
Your gallery looks wonderful, you have both worked so hard and it shows, it looks so welcoming and cosy... Not forgetting the art work which looks incredible.
So pop the kettle on top of the log burner and hopefully one day I shall be knocking on your door for a cup of tea and a natter... I might have to stay a few days...A hardship I shall have to endure...
Wishing you all the very best.
~ Julie
The gallery looks incredible - I'm just so sorry that you're so far away!
And selling your lovely house???? Why???? (the very thought of anyone moving house fills me with horror after what I've just done!)
I thought of you the other day when we found some old shutters in the very damp linhay, just crying out to be rescued and repurposed. I may post about them soon!
what a wonderful space you have. one day i'll visit. in the meantime i'll recommend you to my lovely uncle and aunt who live nearby, i believe.
enjoy the rest of your summer.
I am in awe of what you and your John have done in the last few months.
Very impressed with everything, including your most interesting side bar, which I have yet to explore.
Looks GREAT! And I like the idea of the metal poles and clamp lights. Easier than track lighting.... I'm about to build a studio/worskop space, so filling up on idea possibilities, maybe that will work for my space, too!
Selling your house, I was surprised to hear that! I can't imagine selling that view - or those gothic windows, and gardens, but, alas, you two can create magic wherever you go, so I'm sure the next place will also be
light-filled and inspiring!!! Good luck sprucing up. If I had a lot of dough and didn't need to teach near here, I;d scoop up your house in a minute!
It looks so amazing. Beautiful. I've loved watching the process. Magic!
Thanks pRiyA, I told myself that I must cut my Sweet Peas regularly so the blooms last a good long time.. I love their scent.
Oh Julie, you flatter me... I have just put the kettle on so book your flight!
Hi Chasing Lightning bugs.. I have been enjoying your relaxed lifestyle. it seems ideal!!
Hi Judy, Thanks so much for visiting!
Thanks Rachel and Valerianna, oh my yes I do LOVE my house... and the act of creating it was absolutely fulfilling and the best experience ever.. and the view is to die for... We hope to keep 2 acres up on top of the bluff off to the side behind a thick border of trees, still facing out to the ocean... and hopefully building again at a later date.. as you know there is nothing like the act of creating.. Hope we can do something cool again.
Thanks Denise, sometimes it seems like it has taken forever...we probably appear to be the world's slowest builders.. oh but we are enjoying every minute.
Wow you have been busy...and it looks like you will continue to be. What a wonderful place you have created here. WIsh I could visit in person.
A wonderful gallery, my word you pair have been very busy. It was an utter delight to be able to have the grand tour and I wish you every success with the venture.
Gwen, how lovely it is to see the fruition of all that hard work and the gallery up and running. You really are an amazing couple. Are you going to live at the gallery as well? I cannot imagine you selling your lovely house where everything was so perfect and running so smoothly.
Congratulations on your new grandson, he must be making you so very happy.
It seems like only yesterday that you decided to send Max to school! Children are delightfully careful drivers when parents are present, at other times, it is better not to think about it.
I promise to send you a high resolution photo of my lovely crows as soon as ever . . . I have been meaning to for quite some time but with my dear old Prof having developed Alzheimers, my hands are rather full. I will manage to do it soon (I hope).
Hugs . . . Arija
hi Gwen!
What a beautiful gallery... the cards, the paintings, the colors... you've created quite a haven there. I'm definitely visiting one of these days. But like you, this summer has been crazy for me as well and I never seem to have enough time for everything.
Bravo on creating such a gorgeous spot. Those who enter must feel like they want to grab a cup of tea & stay forever. :o)
Pauline
Seth, Wouldn't that be nice!!
Thanks so much Heron's View, I am sure some unexpected things will take place.
Hi Arija, We have decided to just go with the flow and see what happens.. although we have thought our way over around and through many options and never resolved any, we realize we just have to wait and see what happens. Not easy to do... till then very busy...
Pauline.. you are right TIME is a precious commodity.. Now whoever figures out how to make more will be a very rich man/woman.
Dear Gwen ... The Gallery is awesome! Enjoyed the tour & seeing all of the art you two have created! Fabulous cards!
I wanna come visit too ...
maybe next summer ... hmm but if you sell the house ... does that mean the Gallery/Studio is part of the package? Say it ain't so!!!
You just finished it & got everything arranged so wonderfully!
Hugs ... Marie
Hi Marie, the two properties are about a 1/2 km. apart... our house is up on the bluff and our little Gallery about 1/2 km. down the main road. Hope you are enjoying your summer!
What an undertaking! Your gallery looks amazing Gwen. I hope you are having a very successful summer.
Gwen, it looks fantastic and I enjoyed seeing everything in it you showed.
John and you have built quite a beautiful place to have a gallery, congratulations.
and congrats about your new grandson.
Thanks Sandy and Chris.. It certainly has been a very busy summer... in more ways than one.
Congratulations for EVERYTHING!
Sending you heartfelt good wishes for all your new ventrues.
The shop looksvery welcoming, wish I wasn't thousands of miles away!
Hi herhimnbryn, Thank you for your good wishes... we need all the extra energy and good vibes we can get.. I can feel them!!!
You're selling? I hope you get dear souls to buy it. All the best with the next phase of your life.
Oh! Gwen! Absolute gorgeousness .... it's all so beautiful. I am in shock that you are selling ... someone very rich will want to own your property, so I have no doubt you will find a good buyer. Your gallery is amazing, too, and I love all the cards ... so many of them evoke memories of past posts! I would have loved to see your house in person - that's not going o happen - but it has been such a pleasure to view so much of it online. Maybe one day I'll be able to visit the gallery. Thank you so much for spending so much of your time and creative energy on this blog. xo
Everything you all do is so well thought out...the gallery is spectacular...but I got stuck on something...You're selling your house????? It's a work of your art too!
Shayla, Morna, and Simply Blue... we are really hoping it will allow us to do more artistic endeavors than we could have before... as well as help our son become established in the Art world as well... As you all know, Creating is such a strong desire in an Artist's life.... and life never stands still...
Thank you for your generous thoughts!!!
What a sweet little gallery! I love the lady painting for the outside, what a beautiful eye catcher she will be for customers. And I love the cottage feel of the outside of the gallery. I wish I lived closer so I could come in and browse all your goodies!
This is the 1st time I have come over to your blog and how inspiring this visit has been. From your jewellery to your illustrations to your gallery, it has been a beautiful glimpse into your creative world.
So nice to have you here Vineeta. As I have seen from your blog, creating is a part of life that is essential to many of us.. it just makes one feel happy to get up in the morning.
Thank you for visiting!
