I recently had an artist friend in town and sent him to the Neue Gallerie just up the street from the Met. They specialize in German and Austrian Expressionist pieces and my friend had never seen an Egon Schiele piece in person and I knew that they had a roomful of portrait drawings/sketches by Schiele. Needless to say, when I saw my friend later that day, he couldn't thank me enough.
I love love love these--I'm awed by Egon Schiele: his people, and whatever else he draws or paints (I love his landscapes; there are several good books of them), are always perfectly placed on the paper. An ability that continues to elude me.
I can never get enough of his work... ohhhh, to be as talented as he was... he left the earth so young... can you imagine what else he would have done or how his work would have evolved...
