Thanks, Gwen. I really enjoyed this. Pete Seeger will be missed in more ways than one. Who remains to sing of the injustices that still exist is the world?
Thank you for this sad, sad, news. I have always loved Pete Seeger, especially his sad lament for the coyote. Like so many of my friends, also many of the people who have brightened my life without knowing it, are passing from this earthly plane.
Pete Seeger the singer - songwriter who used his gifts for the betterment of the world's people. A man who by his songs raised awareness of what the world might be if only we acted with peace in our hearts & minds. He is best described as an Activist; so Pete Seeger Rest in Peace.
I lived in Poughkeepsie, NY, in the 1960s, where Sloop Clearwater had its offices in an old yellow house. I went to the first Sloop Clearwater River Rival Festivals at the bottom of Main Street in Poughkeepsie. They were very laid back, pleasant --- although I remember the heat was brutal and my brother's little pug dog died because it was too much. They have long since moved to different venues and the festival is so much more of a recognized THING now - with proper ticketing and LOTS of performers, etc. I've never been since those ones in the sixties but, like so many others, my way of thinking has been profoundly influenced by Pete Seeger and his indefatigable efforts to shape a better world. His life story is so rich with his many experiences - I think there is a documentary on Netflix for anyone who wants to know more. I truly believe he deserves the Nobel Prize for peace. xo
