Practicing seeing the simplicity of random objects common in my life...
...outline.. shape.. volume... boundaries... contours... hard... soft...
The day outside is overcast... it is that time of year... the light alters... changes... brighter, dimmer but still, all shades of gray, subdued, resting, shadow... all that nature feels is right for now...
Inside, where I am, I look at lines, edges, borders of shapes... that stay the same ...
I have missed drawing like one misses a good friend... I hope she visits more often.

Yes, indeed, this time of year inspires the road back to basics. It also brings us home to ourselves and measures our iridescence against those shades of gray.
You and your words positively glow.
Yes! You need to draw more often! And post the results. I love your drawings. Maybe that Pigma Micron could loosen the rust around my fingers! I'm going to check into it.
Nice pen, nice ink, lovely drawings.
Your blog posts are always a joy....
You are a gifted draftsman (should I say "draftswoman?), Gwen. I love to see pages out of these little sketchbooks. Have a good holiday.
Much better than my cow!
Good stuff Gwen.
Love how you turn common object into aesthetic ones.
I so admire someone who knows where to draw the line.
I love not only the drawings, but also the lettering, which is an art in and of itself... you have very clear talents for both...
And Louciao's comment here ! My goodness, what a sharp edged wit she possesses ! Can you imagine an illustrator or artist who did not know where to draw the line ?
Maybe that's why some of the best went to excesses in absinthe or whatever...
:-)
Beautiful line. Lovely volume, you might guess I'm all for simplicity, and I agree with Owen, the lettering is GREAT! Someday I'll get back to exploring lettering.... thanks for the reminder of how beautiful it is.
Yes, i hope your good friend visits more often too. I've been studying the enlarged photo of your sketch book ..... magic!
Hi Gwen, I love the winter skies, all that gray and the silence. You make drawing look so effortless.
I just noticed your finished studio,it is just wonderful. I really enjoy all of the antique architecture and now a stone wall.ahhh!
lines marks text
all beautiful...
I love black line drawings. You've got great style.
With the last sale under our belt, and the studio cleaned up (ahh that's better)... Wouldn't it be grand if all you lovely people were gathered around the tables.. What fun...
We can at least pretend...
Thank you for dropping by... at least virtually.
I always feel as though I'm sitting in your studio, kitchen, or gardens when you write a post. That's the magic you weave with words, Gwen.
I always forget how much I enjoy drawing: every time I do it I wonder why I don't draw more often.
Your line drawings are just great ... perhaps an inspiration for another earring design will emerge (you know what a fan I am of your earrings!)
hello. I have been away from the blog world for awhile and am catching up.. I love your words here-- we are also in our 'gray' days- cloudy and cold and even had snow for Thanksgiving.. so your words really touched me.
I love reading your words of subdued days and seeing the simple lines of the objects that make up your world. Beautiful sketches! roxanne
The Simplicity of a line, I wish I could draw one without the help of a ruler. But my friend, you make up for my lacking. The sea is calling and once our schedules allow.........put on the tea my friend oh how I miss you.
I so love to see what you have created, so 'crafty' you are.
Take care my Seaside Friend, until next time.
Brrr... it was cold when we took the walk-starved dogs for a wander on the beach today.. felt like I would rather be sitting by the woodstove...
I am overwhelmed by the talent that is evident in each of the bloggers who drop by...
...and leave comments here.. otherwise most of us would never know of each others existence.. we have thoughts in common with more people than we sometimes think..
It's been so long since I've drawn anything...far too long. I wonder if I still can?
so inspiring!
I love the line drawings, Gwen. There is something so soulful them, and lately I've been wanting to draw them too.
Deborah I'm sure you draw as well as you write.. Congratulations with your new book!!
Ruth and Jane you are too sweet.
Hi Shelley, the tea is on.
Laura, your architectural drawings are fabulous, I look forward to them.. your lines are so sure.... and I am so pleased you wear our earrings!!
Layers and Roxanne, Thank you, hope we all warm up soon.
Shayla and India, Thank you.
Stephen, you can't fool me... from the talent that comes from your fingers I know they are not rusty!!
Guillaume, the commoner the better..
Robyn, this time of year is when we have no impending things to take us away from doing the things we love to do... I have to try to make it last longer.
Lord W, you have a magic way with words!
Penny, your cow was great!!!
Thanks, herhimnbryn.
Louciao and Owen aren't you two the little teasing instigators... are you really sis and bro? and I saw a few (not me) going down Absinthe alley the other night..
Valerianna, exploring is the best part of art, don't you think?
Cathy, it was such a welcome relief to get the whole studio project under control.. it is at a state we can handle now without much stress.
