Lucian Freud... My Interpretation

Lucian Freud has a most unique way of telling people how he sees.... I was not immediately attracted to his work when first exposed to it.... He does not make pretty pictures...

His paintings make me consider images differently...

He is a soul searcher.... His work has a way of growing on you... attaching itself with an emotional distance....

He inspires me to see depth of spirit........

My interpretation of his Self-Portrait is 16' x 20" Oil on Panel

It happened again.

I just got done posting in my blog in which I talk abt. going to MOMA and seeing the exhibit on lucien Freuds etchings and I come to your blog and what is it abt.... Lucien Freud of course.

Not trying to weird you out, but there is some sort of connection here.

You're right abt. Lucien's work, the paintings are not very "Beautiful", but they sure are pretty magnificent.

He has a series of prints with one of his favorite breeds of dogs, Whippets, that I felt were incredibly successful and I thoroughly enjoyed looking at.

My dear Mr. Watson, if I didn't know better I'd think something was afoot.

You are right, strange indeed.... too weird.

After I read your comment I went to see if any images of the MOMA show were online, & saw the woman & dog & a grouping of Whippets.. and quite a few others.... He is one of those guys that just keeps you wondering.... That guy is one out-there artist. Good thing, cause we all need shook up as often as possible before we are all lulled into oblivion.

thanks for sending your thoughts, David... leaves one pondering...
take care, gwen

I am a bit ashamed of myself for easily associating an artist with a particular medium and style. I always linked you with your beautiful watercolours. This portrait is so strong and complex and emotional. The sections of colour which combine to form the face are rivetting. It is amazingly done.

Priya.. That was so much fun to do.. Now the real challenge is to do one from my own original source.. Oh to find the time.
