Beware of the Dog

8 ½" x 11" page from my sketchbook, pen/ink... thought I'd put a few teeth into it.

...even in 66 AD, a dog was a man's best friend... well true at least, for the man who was his master.
Note: Petronious also spelled Petronius

Greyhounds, hunting dogs. Cool.

Like those sleek lines, I am more wary around dogs now than I ever was, I am not sure why, perhaps there are too many dogs and not enough people who know how to train them.

What a wonderful page ... It reminds me of an eighteenth-century illustration, for some reason! Love the dogs ... and the lettering, which is something I want to explore too.
Nicely done!

(... and I think the warning to beware of dogs is directed at those who are up to no good!)

My little best friend is lying at my feet as I type.

You make me want to pick up my pens again, your dogs are so excellent. Love all those "teeth". The foxes and racoons best beware of those teeth, we have 2 sets of them on the property.

Love the sketch just as much as I love its subject -- very much!

Such wonderful lines and character detail, Gwen! Beware... These guys don't look to spooky to me. ;o) Happy Days ((HUGS))

Those dogs don't look very dangerous. I can only think that the warning is : that any intruder might end up being licked to death!

Thanks Arija, You may be a dog-whisperer!!

Guillaume, mine are more like skinny dogs with funny noses.

Penny you are right , a dog is a reflection of his master.

Laura, I would really love spending more time with lettering too. it is just plain fun.

That would be a sweet pic, Robyn. When my son Max starts Art School next week, his little dog will miss him so badly.. I'll have to keep him close by so he doesn't get lonely.

Jeri, Your abilities blow me away. and the human characteristics you give your creatures too are so well done. such talent you have.

Tracy no these guys don't really go with the scary side of guard dogs do they? our littlest dog is really cute but he thinks he is a guard dog. it is complicated.

Thank you Seth, It was the latin words that caught my attention in a story at first. funny how one thing leads to another when a person doesn't have a plan.

Haha Mel, you got that right.. if anyone can withstand all their barking then the licking starts full on.
