Wild Apple Blossoms

The little Wild Apple tree that grows along the driveway bloomed  with the most profuse rich colour this year.  The most blossoms ever in its young life.

As you can see it is only in its gangly preteen years....  and with it being a wild tree, which means the seeds for it were planted by the wild world.  Maybe a bird stopped there, or a coyote, or a fox or a deer... I will never know, but I'm glad they did...  and it grew there because it liked the location... slightly sloped, full south facing, no imposing large trees to shade it... no transplanting or preparing the earth was necessary.  It liked that spot took root and grew.

But how beautiful.  We have other apple trees blooming now too, mostly pale delicate pinks and they are most lovely too... but none with as bright fuschia petals as this.

Something about apple blossoms that always capture me... maybe it is their burst of colour and then their fleeting nature. They never stick around as long as I wish... but I guess they have a few magical things to do... like turn into apples...  and that takes a huge amount of the trees energy so it has to get on with it in short measure.

So glad it graced us with its beauty... makes driving home along the rock bluff driveway even more joyful.  and when this years apples do come, so will the birds and animals that spread the seeds in the first place... a natural circle of life.

The color and abundance of the petals is fantastic, and as it is wild, it is a gift to you and the animals who will enjoy its fruit.

... lovely post, Gwen ... my favourite tree is the chest nut tree with it's "candles" and then those "don't touch me" fruits, that finally open themselves in the fall ... to be food for deer, and wild boar and moose ... I remember the summer I collected many pounds of chestnuts and delivered them to the local wild life guy ... made me enough money to buy me a really dandy Dutch bicycle ... smiles ... Love, cat.

Thanks Geo, volunteers are almost always the best... definitely the easiest!

Terra, I'll be keeping an eye on it throughout the year to see who visits.

Cat, that is a great story about the bicycle! Smart determined girl.. and I have to say I adore Chestnut trees and their huge flowering blooms. our neighbor near Our old homestead project has one and it is blooming right now.

Guillaume, Same here.. makes one want to go and sit under them.

You are so welcome Wildside. Made me so happy when I saw it.

A treat for sure Mel.. perhaps it will be a kind of crabapple... can't wait to see them develop.

I love apple blossom too, Gwen, but the ones in our garden were planted by us and are a much paler pink. This fuchsia colour is more like cherry blossom - it's absolutely gorgeous and I love your way of thinking - that because it's wild it chose that spot itself. A very fine spot it is too! My favourite is the top photo. I love these close-ups of blossoms.
Happy weekend to you!

Ours in the backyard had only one little tiny clump of blossoms this year ....I couldn't believe it after it was so full and beautiful last season. I have no clue what happened...other than that it looks lovely and healthy...mind you...the lilies have no blooms this year either ...I don't know what to think....

BumbleVee, sounds like everything is going upside down all over the place. Are they getting too much nitration and going all to green. maybe a few will surprise you and bloom. hope so. xo
