The Garden Went In and It Progressed

And it all seemed to happen so fast...

This spring I decided not to grow a garden after 35 years of doing so … and lo and behold now know why … Why ? … cuz I fell and broke my knee plate thing really bad and will be recuperating for many months to come … thus I couldn't do any gardening anyway … Nonetheless, I do enjoy strolling through your garden … thank you for letting me … Love, cat.; 22:55

Gwen Buchanan said...: Hey All, Cat, Steven and Guillaume... it just loved every little bit of the process and progress. I had to battle a few slugs but once the plants got bigger they seemed to take care of themselves.. I had a few potato seed left over and planted them outside the fence and the deer thought they belonged to them so came and nibbled them fairly often ...quite a difference in size between the two patches now. The sunflowers are several feet over my head now. So happy to watch everything grow; 12:58

Gwen Buchanan said...: Faye, for sure Gardens are Life!! The bowl was filled with ground up zucchini (you know the big ones,, ha).. I freeze it and use it in muffins, cakes and spaghetti sauce. it's about time to do some more... almost afraid to look in the zucchini patch this morning.. just kidding .. can't wait.

Wildside, I am loving having my own food.. saves so much money and really a pleasure to have at hand.. and really not much work at all. Love it.; 09:29

Right now mine are pretty much all in containers, but in the future I want to build something a little more permanent and I'm always interested in what others do!; 12:13
Gwen Buchanan said...: Rain it may look bigger than it actually is . about 24' x 34'. Since it's my first garden here and this summer being so excruciatingly hot, it is hard to tell what normal is... I will do a little survey of it at the end of the growing season to see what did best and what won't be going in next year. Swiss chard and cucumbers did the very best so far. Loved seeing what you did with your veggies!! cheers.; 16:14

WILDSIDE said...: Just coming back again to admire all that neatness in construction & productivity, Gwen! I know have got to do that here too -- must, must -- can't go on with edible gardening efforts without protection anymore... I'm too old & tired to battle now! Lack of water this year, dead & dying trees (some down) and overgrown blackberries everywhere, but still managing to harvest enough fresh for us to enjoy despite the mama & twin fawns (& much more) living with us on our small plot. We enjoy the wildlife more than the food garden, but... BUT! I know it should be enough, but considering all the thwarted effort too? KUDOS to you.; 12:40
Gwen Buchanan said...: Hi Wildside. some things did better than others ... for ex. the garlic was my fav.. no work veggie. we had a very extremely hot summer. over 30 c. for weeks at a time.. it hindered the fruit set on the peppers, beans and squash.. ... they mostly started setting fruit when the temps went back to norm. good luck with greens, cucumbers. tomatoes and broccoli. anyway learned lots and what to do next year..; 13:00
WILDSIDE said...: OH YES!!! Garlic is my #1 favorite too; does well in our clime. Despite sizzling temps and no rain this Summer, our tomatoes are as yet nowhere near ripe! Perhaps because I purposely was (er, gasp, ahem!) "not gardening" this year!

But for thwarted effort, everything was practically free! And still continues to come in the door nearly every time I go out.
