June Socks

the next portion of the photos decided to go in backwards of the process.. blogger has its own ideas of how they want them I guess.. anyway the second pair begins at the bottom of this post and goes up to the middle..   they turned out great. all handspun wool .  size 13 mens. rather large. 

 

Creating a Granny Square Blanket

Making progress on the Granny Square blanket... showing 1st round in 1 colour... 2nd round with 2 colours and 3rd round with 3 contrasting colours and final black round as the attaching colour...

I never did a blanket like this before but I always loved them, esp. with the black really showing off the bright colours... takes a lot longer than I thought it would ...has a very traditional look and is super cozy.

Brought out all my balls of yarn... odds and ends with lots of colour ... crocheting Granny Squares... assistant Inky has settled in to supervise... par for the course

Blanket is 1/3 of the way crocheted together... the black tails still need to be woven in.

Below, Blanket is done... I'm satisfied with it and it reminds me of days of long ago, which is the time I wished I lived

 

Fore-edge Painted Cookbook

One of the coolest cook books I ever discovered at a second hand book sale... the technique is called "Fore-edge Painting"...

...consists of artistic decorations drawn to enhance the book on the closed edge of the pages...

the book is approx. 7" x 9" by 1 1/2" thick. There is no evidence of who the artist was, just an inscription of "Happy Cooking Big Sister! -1993-"

I love it and it's a total treasure

... and the recipes look delicious 

Here We Go Again

...started off as a grid, then was inspired by William Morris,  then vines and leaves and berries appeared... somewhere a a stream of coloured pennants drifted into life... and because I love lettering, an alphabet wanted to take part.

Art just has a way of creating itself if you give it a little help.

I very much enjoyed doing this.
