I have always LOVED that quote! It's one of those that has stuck in my head and pops up when I'm appalled.

Oh, and that top picture is INCREDIBLE.....visually beautiful and intriguing. My mind immediately started trying to make sense out the the sock.....

It's a sock? I though it might be some sort of sea creature.
I read in the paper yesterday that someone found near the shore of Lake Huron, a foot in a sock and sandal of a man. GROSS! Maybe this is his other sock!!!

Brilliant.

The second photo sends me. Really. And it looks like it could be taken with a toy camera (like a Holga), with the corners fading.

But don't get me started on Holgas, after just wasting two rolls of film and two long trips to town for processing - only to find out that the Holga my friend loaned me doesn't work - nothing on the film. Ah well, maybe I'll just order me one online, seeing as they're only $25. I'm intrigued by experimenting with film again - in a limited way.

. . . have me a project in mine with the laundry line . . .

Sharon,
I wished i had picked up that sock when i saw it,... it somehow felt lost.. but I left it on the shore... I'm thinking of going back over, this afternoon to see if it is still anywhere around... but I doubt it, as it is 2nd super High tide of the month again... way above the other wrack lines!!

................

Anet, some little creature may have taken up residence in it by now... but they have been finding sneakers with the foot still in, out on the west coast of BC too.. in and around the same bay that my daughter lives near... very strange... guess the foot was preserved by the sneaker... they are trying to trace DNA to any bodies they have found.

........

Thanks Ruth... when I took that, it was very gray out and the birds kept circling and circling. there were more but I couldn't get them all in... we drove around till we could find a spot that we could see them the best... funny thing we ended up in a graveyard!!!

I can't wait till I see what you have planned.. you have me intrigued.. But I am not familiar with a Holga?? sounds cool!!

Beautiful pictures. I love that quote from Nietzsche. I don't know much about him to be honest, but I know that he was often unfairly judged, because he had a few very bad admirers (who didn't bother to read him in the first place). I will always be thankful to him for helping Europe to discover the great opera that is Bizet's Carmen (a cure to Wagner for Nietzsche).

Guillaume, from what I have read...Nietzsche's philosophy had wrongly gained the reputation of supporting "Nazism" through his concept of the 'Superman' but it was closer to 'a man of Virtue' than an Aryan hero... much of the negativity has been attributed to his sister.

well, I was going to say i love the quote; its so timely. Then that foot in the sneaker was like a strange happening too. The thing about living close to the sea, something could have come from almost anywhere, couldn't it? Even trying to wrestle with Peace, monsters appear. Don't they?

Oh you are so right mansuetude. I will be very difficult to find the truth about the foot in the shoe, especially with the ocean currents... I guess the sole of the sneaker makes it very buoyant.. it is a big mystery and rather scary...

Seems no matter what we do Monsters are around every corner... just waiting...

Love the quote Gwen...
I have an uneasy understanding about the first photo. I do like it though! Oh please never let me find a foot in a sock...ever!

Hi Gwen, I have to agree with Jo... I could live a lifetime without finding such a gruesome thing as a foot in a shoe bobbing in the water! Seriously, dead fish are about enough for me.
Love the photo w/the circling birds... and what an apt quote to use. Thanks for sharing the beauty of your landscape with all of us. xoxo, K.

Jo there was just something about that little sock that grabbed me.. it had been there a while and had bits of seaweed twisted into the stitches..It was a childs sock.. It had been handknit and a with a special pattern.. not just plain knitting.. it was a single sock, no mate to be found... part of the top ribbing was deteriorated..I imagined it on a small foot and how cute it must have looked shuffling along... a lot of love went into the creating of it and now it lies on a deserted beach in a wrack line of bleached and dried seaweed... made me think ... there is always uncertainty....

Hey thanks Kathy, I do agree with you both... These birds were so cool to watch they just kept going as if in a trance, hardly moving a wing, just floating on currents, 'round and 'round.. it was a sight to behold...

I think they were ravens...
