My Assistant Picks a Winner

The graceful queen of the household ... No... that wouldn't be me... That would be Tabitha... has agreed to be my assistant on this happy day... She wants to select the winner of the Robin's Egg Blue earrings from my last post, Out of the Blue ...

Here she goes... and with one little dip of her tongue...she has it... pretty helpful isn't she? she has picked that special name out of the bowl..

... yes, an unconventional method of selection but leave it to Tabitha to think her way around a matter... I suppose it isn't any different than licking your finger to turn the page of a book.. naughty habit, I suppose, but I have been known to do it... or really not much different than a frog flicking his tongue out for a fly.... but I digress...

...we should see who's name she's picked.... before she eats it!!

I shouldn't have doubted ... She has it all under control... good girl!! you will get a TREAT for this...

Now Hold it steady, Tabitha and let me have a look... ah I see...

The winner is..... drum-roll...ra-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta..... Asti.... from Lilys House all the way across the Atlantic Ocean... to England... YEA!!!!!
....oh.. you should see the gorgeous yarn she has been spinning... it looks like a rainbow touched down on her spindle.... she even uses Leicester.. one of my favourite fleeces.... oh I think I will have to bring out the spinning wheel after seeing this... so inspiring and beautiful...

Tabitha and I are so pleased to be sending this little pair of earrings off to you... maybe I'll let her lick the envelope, too!!!

Thank you everyone for joining in and leaving your names, your thoughts and your wonderful comments... you are all special..... it wouldn't have been any fun without you..!!!

This..... is when the Instigator made her appearance... That would be Gabi... the 1 yr. old ... the puppy.... Did she hear the word TREAT?....

"Come on Tabitha..... don't you want to play...... aren't I cute?"

"Maybe this will get her attention".......... Queens sure don't like to play much!...

or maybe they do....... just have to get them started...

When the word "Treat" is mentioned .... even if it is whispered.. I think every ear perks up no matter where they are in the house.... Pirate and Toby aren't going to miss out on this either...

jumping... barking... wagging...growling...yipping... licking... sitting pretty... out and out begging.... and downright stealing...

well... gotta go ... the whole place has gone to the dogs!!!

Congratulations, Asti!!!

Gwen, doesn't your comment fall into the "It takes one to know one" category? What are YOU doing up so late???

How lovely it must be to go outside at 4 a.m. and listen to the sea.

Oh, how FANTASTIC ! I am so over the moon. It's a dreary, freezing day here - I just sat down for a mo with some coffee to warm up and got this great news. Thankyou so much Gwen. I loved seeing picking process too - cheers Tabitha!

I used to get my dog to pick lottery numbers for me. He won me ten pounds a couple of times. A fine way to pick a winner :o) Congratulations to the winner.

What lucky dogs you have Gwen, knowing they are loved and appreciated for their quirks and energies.

My goodness, your work must be just about done for you with four such energetic assistants. Are they all as skillled as Tabitha?
If ever you need some English Leicester we still have them.
We had a little shop here on the farm for a while. I spun it and India used to dye it. We gave the shop up though because there were too many Tyre kickers who just wanted to have an outing and a sticky beak when we had work to do.
So very generous of you to give those beautiful earrings away.

I can't believe the amount of night Owls about! or are you early birds ... getting up early is great but somehow I forgot to go to bed... how did that happen? I am paying the price now.. can't hardly keep my eyes open...

Morna your are right.. what is that expression... Great minds think alike but Fools never differ.. guess we are back where we started from...

guillaume they are so full of personality... they overflow!!

Asti, Chilly this morning here too with a cool wind.. .. Tabitha just came looking for something to do tonight but i told her she'd have to go chew a bone...
I have sent the little bundle off this afternoon.. hope you get it by Christmas...

Serena the dogs love entertaining..and wrestling too. They would have gone all night long if the treats hadn't run out!!

Gillian, lucky you and your smart dog .. please pass on the secret.. I'll train mine.. you may be able to sell it.. the "Secret" for dogs...

sara, hopefully in the next few days .. wish we could have got down to the Arden residence.. it seemed like the lively place!!Hope you enjoy your Christmas at your ocean home...

Kathi.. probably a lot like your little Mini horses.. I'm sure you know each of their personalities inside out!! which one stays in the fence and which one tries to sneak out...
now they are sweet!want to put one on my knee and pet him...

That's right Arija.. the dogs seem to be resisting learning to use the pliers though.. afriad they may get roped into work.. who was it that said animals were dumb??? I have to start thinking more like a dog...
Arija I never heard the expression Sticky Beak till an English or was she Scottish, lady moved to town last year..

Annette, Rowan would fit right in... wouldn't our dogs love her to visit and play tug with a great toy they just ripped in half...

Thanks Sharon.. Loved your pun.. Are the creatures round the farm still under cover at your place?.. I'm sure they know they are living at the right house!!

Thank you, Ruth... animals are so knowing.. adorable in their ways.. but Pirate always seems to have a worry that someone is going to step on him.. must be because he is the smallest... he had a rough life before we got him at around 7 mo... they really do develop a large part of their personality up to that point and with him it is hard to change... so we just go with his quirks...

Jazz... these dogs would love to go to Montreal and spend the weekend with you sometime...

Sandy.. thanks for coming.. the dogs love an audience...

Thanks Anet, They are so fun to be around.. they make us laugh everyday... The shots I wish I hadn't missed...

Thanks Robyn.. I really like the pearls and Pipestone.. I have heard it called Bauxite before too.. Now the company i buy it from says it comes from Africa.. You may know better than I... i think it is its raw earth look.. like pounded clay... rather primitive..

Congratulations Asti! Well done. Gwen the photos of your dogs are wonderful. You can almost read their thoughts.

Wow, you are so lucky you can have 4 dogs. Our council wont let us have more than 2 and my husband is unrelenting when I ask for another dog. Grats Asti.
Love the red ribbons

hope you enjoy this december's days preparing for hollydays..
congratulations Asti!

Congrats Asti!
What a wonderful Holiday surprise.

Gwen Buchanan said...

Chris.. you're right. even if they can't talk English, they have a way of getting their message across.

Melanie.. They limit the number of dogs you can have?.. gee I was thinking about this statement today and I wondered what I would do if i moved somewhere and they wouldn't let me keep my animals.. I wondered what anyone else would do to.. I couldn't let any of them go away... I would have to move!!.. or hide them and only take 2 out at a time.. do you think they'd catch on?

Hi Dada, thank you so much... I told Max you like his rats and that sure put a big smile on his face.. he loves them too.. I do too..
you'd be surprised how many people cringe when they see them...

Rats are so friendly and good-natured.. everybody should have one in there family... They wrestle and play.. really fun !!!

My mother told me that my Great Grandmother had a big white rat when she was a young woman..and it always sat on her shoulder... She was the most interesting woman!! I knew I liked her!!! even though I only knew her for a short time and she was very old... she never lost her spirit...

Thanks Denise ... never a dull moment

Leanne...I was just hinting to my son, Max, how much women, in particular, like surprises...

Congrats to lucky winner Asti!

Well, the dog didn't choose me. Hmph!
I think Tabitha got some kind of bailout deal with Asti. How did Asti get to her? I had my people talk to her people, but my offer just wasn't good enough.

I'll up the ante next time!

I am a bit late in making a comment but would you believe that I have a daughter, now over 40 called Tabitha and I have a rescue dog (male) who looks so like your Tabitha but mine is called Jake.
congratulations Asti i am green with envy, wish the $ was better for me or I would be buying some of those gorgeous earrings.

Penny, that's so fun... Second hand/rescue dogs are mostly always great dogs... all they need is some lovin'... and they respond 10-fold... Hi to your Tabitha... wouldn't your Jake and my Tabitha look cute playing together?...

Thanks Seth...we could learn a lot from animals.. we have to let them teach us...
