Sunrise and Seasmoke

...click pictures to enlarge to feel the effect and imagine looking out from high on a bluff...

The extreme cold of the night has given way to a most delicate sunrise... a little later in appearing today.... due to the mass of seasmoke rising, mounding and billowing above the surface of the Bay of Fundy...

...blocking the view of our neighboring province... Nova Scotia... 30 miles away... altogether...

To watch this happen is like receiving a gift.... from the world... such anticipation...

Light and colors changing... as... and when Nature decides...

Across the snow covered yard...

Past the village below... out into the Bay of Fundy...

The Seasmoke rises... illuminating the tidal marsh ... in various shades of beauty...

It is Glorious!............................ It is Magnificent!..........

...actually words can hardly describe the emotional response this draws forth....

It can't be packaged.... bought or sold...

It gives itself... free of charge.... to anyone who waits for it...

...or if that soul happens upon it by chance.... they will never forget it....
and they too... will become one of those who wait....

This is Mother Natures offering............ her way of saving grace when she causes us mere mortals to endure these -20C temperatures...

A Balance, I would say.....

That is just unreal!
I still don't know how you get anything done with the views from your windows.
I would just be staring out the windows...wasting the day away.
I like that word "seasmoke"
I feel so blessed that I get to see the beauty of The bay of Fundy.
It's just amazing!!!

I had to set that bottom one looking out the window...I had to set that as my desktop background, I hope you don't mind but ....I want to look at this everytime I'm on my computer.

Gwen your Seasmoke is as inevitable as a Tsunami, as soft as down and strikingly beautiful as love. To lose oneself in it's whiteness aah.
We too had a glorious sunrise this morning, not a spectacular phenomenon like yours, but good enough for me to shoot the head off my camera, about 100 photos! Almost all well worth it. It was a broad brush watercolour sky just made for painting. Then the sheep came up the milky way to grace the red light on the dry grass. Wish you had been here to witness it.

These fill my heart...which was feeling quite empty this morning.

Wow.......that would make the cold bearable! Amazing.

Wow - that is so beautiful. It is like you have a view of the heavens and all that lies below. Your perch is amazing in all seasons.

Ahh Gwen, you are so brave to be up that early in such awful cold. While you were taking these lovely photos I had the quilts pulled up to my eyebrows. The house felt barely above freezing this morning!

I'm . . . speechless . . . !

PG.. the beauty of this I can't keep to myself...

Anet.. pretty amazing isn't it.. it doesn't happen every morning but when it does ... be prepared to stand spellbound...

Oh Sandy Please do..I'm flattered! It is plain to me now, that I should have washed the windows sooner... salt spray on the outside and woodsmoke on the inside..
Now I'll think of you looking out, each day with me.. that feels nice...

Oh Arija, Impossible to stop clicking when an intoxicating subject presents itself, isn't it?... the thought of being able to capture beauty is hard to believe... this use to be only for our memories to hold for us... or storytellers or painters.. now almost everyone can hold beauty in their hands for a time... hard to describe the feeling...

Gwen Buchanan said...

Thanks Deborah, It is very humbling to see natures grand acts... the sunrise on stage and the sea rising to meet it.. it feels as if I could never get close enough to it, till I disappeared inside of it...

Sharon, That usually does the trick... a beauty in exchange for a big chill.. not a bad deal..

I feel blessed every day of life, Denise, ... I never knew I would live at a place like this... seems like the closed in nature of my other home was saving my strength for this...

Ahh kathi... You Sleepyhead... I took these at 9:15... I should have worn something on my hands ... it was so cold.. but I couldn't resist it....
How do the animals and birds do it? the ravens and crows were flying in circles as if they enjoyed it and were making a game of it... We have to get back to basics...

Ruth.. I was too!!! Thank you...

Thank goodness we don't have to migrate like we used to. That would be pretty chaotic in present conditions. Human body is not equipped to deal with extreme conditions like the polar bear. But the polar bear doesn't posses a university degree. human intelligence compensates for lack of adaptability. Keeping yourself warm is an expensive affair, luckily heating is available.
Things are going fine now.
What if ?
and for how long ?
Survival takes the highest priority, not comfort.
Please save Gwen, and think of buying some land in Asia. i would advise the same to Ruth, sharon Loring and your friends over there, not for yourself but for the future generation.
Pictures are gorgeous Gwen.
Merry christmas to you and your family and friends.

Rauf, Thank you for the investment tip.. I welcome your sage advise... you are much more world traveled than I...and have seen things I could never imagine.. I welcome that you have opened up my world.

Yes, how we forget the journeys that have gone on before, the searching for the necessary things that sustain life...

yes, heating can be hard on the pocketbook even though we use the most economical methods going... solar and wood... I often wonder how people ever migrated this far north to try and survive all year round.. I guess it is where one is born that sometimes determines this.. over much time.. and here we are.. wondering...
I wish you the very best in your life's journey ... wherever you go come back safe and with even more understanding to share with us...

The most Merry Christmas to you and yours, my dear.

It is a shame we can't all of us manage a town home and a country (or seaside) home. We could have the best of both worlds.
