And On It Goes

 The trees at sunset

 And in the morning

On Christmas day...
cancel all planned activities

and the next...
the trees stand tall, the weather ever changing.
Old Man Winter is the boss, in this part of the world and he's not likely to let you forget it.

Deep freeze here as well, friend Gwen ... Just came back from a few weeks of island hopping in the Southern Caribbean Sea ... St Thomas, St Kitts, St Lucia, Antigua and Puerto Rico ... then met son Paul and daughter in law Leanne and cat Benny in Fort Lauderdale, Florida 4 XMas ... Will post soon in my travel blog ... in the meantime here is the address of Paul and Leanne's travel blog: @paulleanneandavan ... they are travelling North America by van for a year ... next stop is at uncle Bud's in St Petersburg, Florida. Anyway ... Wishing you and yours a very happy and healthy New Year. Love and purrs always, cat.

How I envy you. We hardly get snow here, beside the Bristol Channel, and I long for scenes like yours. Maybe not for months on end, though!

I'm with you on the "maybe not for months on end" part Rachel... working on a huge bubble to pull over the 2 acres... winter outside of it and always summer inside of it.. haven't figured it out yet

Gwen, beautiful pictures, beautiful life as always.

Deep freeze? We all have thanks to YOUR (your own particular deep freeze) environment in Eastern Canada to the development of our frozen food industry as a whole (that nowadays keeps us alive or at least in better health when nothing much else grows outside). Frozen foods are far superior in nutrition to those dried or canned or... You can fill in the blank.

The experimenter/inventor? I think his name was Birdseye? There once was a book I read from the library on him that was very eye opening, much like a book I read on the evolution of modern light, tho' I still rely a great deal on candlelight, and still am needing to convince myself once & for all that frozen store-bought over frozen or fresh homegrown A-OK.

So I say thank you to YOU for enduring your deep freezing temperatures. As they (whoever "they" may be!) have often said: "Nature is not your friend."

However, I think we can each do our best to try & keep nature as our friend so, thereby, as a result, become happier for it.

OH!! Blah, blah, blah, that is!

As always, just admiring what you do & wishing you the best.

Hi Wildside... just had a winter storm bomb yesterday.. very intense wind having its way with the world as we know it. snow too , the wind was worse by far... causing problems for many people. hi Gwen, I just got caught up on your blog- the move-the new little house ... Everything you and your husband due qualifies as art-so beautiful... I am wondering what you are going to plant on the trellis at your side door? If roses what type? Thanks and happy newyear.

Oh aren't you adorable Cathy!!... yes in a totally different environment now. took a lot of paring down to fit and a lot of work to make it livable but we are just about there. can't wait till the spring to be out in the garden bringing ideas to life. so far I have planted Virginia Creeper and Climbing Hydrangea on the trellis on the side. I have several grapes planted in the front and we will hopefully put trellis up to accommodate them in the spring too... probably have to chase the deer a fair amount. Life feels very different here. very cozy and nice tho. so nice to hear from you.. Hope life is being good to you and that you are still painting.. cheers

Thanks for the reply in positive, Gwen!

Nearly all my houseplants ("the relief of green" in wintertime) have died for lack of light, not warmth, as was opposite the case in previously years.

Feeling far warmer this year thanks to having fires & giving into laying about with electrical cords (ie. the evils of modern convenience...) Despite having had some snow & below freezing temps, don't have anything nearly close to as bad as what you do! And am grateful for it? Trying to be,anyway. And for that, I do feel guilty!

Keep hanging in there! You live in a wonder-filled part of the world.
This coming from outside eyes!

Hey Wildside,,, although I am not a fan of winter at all, I do love the time that it allows me to hunker down in the studio and have at making things to my hearts content. I love that.. kind of a cocoon of creativity. The hardest part is deciding which to do next.
