Pen and Ink Drawings of Heads and Faces

  Inspired by Leonardo

 

 

 

 Even though I really, really Love sewing,  quilting,  jewelry making, house building,  dog tending, homestead planning and all else...

... it feels very nice to just sit at my desk every now and then and just play with ink and paper...

... and then I read this  quote by Walt Stanchfield,

“We all have 10,000 bad drawings in us. The sooner we get them out the better.”

Funny..   well for better or for worse, I had fun doing them.

Crosshatching and line drawings in my sketchbook, a few hands and feet thrown in for good measure, crow quill dip pen, India Ink, and Acrylic Artist Ink.

The better to see you...........

Interesting how you start with one idea and others move in and take over.

...just like the rest of life.
 I guess it's all relative.

...inspiration from many sources, including Leonardo da Vinci, 

using sanguine conte, pen and ink, wash, hatching in my sketchbook.

Still looking at snow and working on jewelry... making headway on the jewelry, none on the snow.

After Leonardo

A simple pencil sketch and a bit of wash... I could never do him justice but he makes one want to try... so I did ... on a 5" x 7" 300 lb CP Arches WC paper...

High Renaissance scientist... writer... painter... draftsman...inventor... architect... musician... sculptor............

Although Leonardo lacked the knowledge of Latin...it was probably an advantage since this work is based on his own observations rather than the teachings of others.....

An original thinker and creator...






Leonardo was one of the greatest painters and most versatile geniuses in history...

A report states... of his participation in a debate at court, between representatives of the arts and sciences that..... " he silenced the learned and he confounded the liveliest intellect"

A teacher for all....

I would highly recommend the book "Leonardo da Vinci" Sketches and Drawings by Frank Zöllner and published by Taschen
